Table Time Activities

6 08 2007

You may have noticed that I have added a heading at the top called “table time activities”.  I will be adding to this list and feel free to add some of your own.  These are great little activities to do with your kids while you make dinner, homeschool other children or need something to do on a rainy day. Some things I have seen my kids learn from Table Time are patience, self-control, individual play and fine-motor.  The way we implement Table Time in our home is

1. I choose or let the child choose something to do from our shelve of activities.

2. Interact with the child to get them started (basically play with the child for about 5 mins. showing them ways to play with the activity they have chosen).

3. Set a timer for the amount of time you feel appropriate for your child (we do about 20 mins.)

4. When the timer goes off either play with the child at that activity again (a nice reward for playing individually) or let them choose another activity.

I have noticed my children do well if they switch activities every 20-30 mins. through the day.  When I do this they misbehave less (less chance to become bored) and enjoy each activity more because there is change.
